I'm definitely a bit of a lip balm addict, with various tubes and containers stuffed into my coat pockets, purses, and drawers. So when I heard about the biodegradable eco-tube lip balm from Organic Essence, I had to give it a whirl.
Instead of adding more plastic into the landfills, the folks at Organic Essence decided to try eco-friendly 100% consumer waste recycled paper for their lip balm packaging, and I have to say that I really dig it. If you're used to the simple twist and apply, it takes a bit of an adjustment; in this case, do what your mother always yelled at you to do with the toothpaste tube and squeeze gently from the bottom. Just enough balm comes up for your lips and then you carefully replace the top. The balm itself is fantastic -- subtle scent, the perfect thickness, and USDA certified organic.
When you're done with the lip balm tube, you can compost it or recycle it. Or if you're in my house, you'll feel less guilty every time you have to toss it and buy a new one because your kids get their hands on it. -Kristen
