Lazing in the pumpkin patch. Biting into a just-picked apple. Jumping in a leaf pile. I have all of those iconic family pictures of fall sitting in photo albums already. So what's next?
This year, to give me a little inspiration (and mindfullness before I click the shutter) I'll be signing up for Picture Fall, the 31-day online photography workshop for both pros and photo newbies alike. Like its predecessor Picture Summer, Picture Fall is led by Shutter Sisters' founder, pro photographer and cool mama Tracey Clark and hosted on the Big Picture Scrapbooking website. I joined the last workshop after writing it up here, and can recommend it wholeheartedly. I love that I could interpret the assignment in any way I wanted and the online format is smart for busy moms. For those of us who are already tired of school, no worries: This is not a class with grades, "no that isn't right" comments or mindless homework. Rather, each morning during the month of October, an email prompt arrives in your inbox, along with one of Tracey's gorgeous shots to show how she interprets the prompt. Photos can be uploaded to a classroom gallery on the site, and you'll learn a ton just by giving and receiving comments from your classmates. In case you are wondering, I did get some amazing shots this summer that I never would have captured had I not joined this class. You can bet I'll be there again next month to try and capture the magic I find around me--maybe in less cliche ways than before. [photo: tracey clark]
