Every Hanukkah, in addition to the loooong lists of requested items (i.e. toys) we always make sure to include several books as gifts. And guess what--long after my son is bored with the video game he received, he's still reading and re-reading the books.
For the younger set, I really like these Hanukkah activity books by Emily Sper, who we discovered last year for our 2009 holiday gift guide. But now her books have been republished by Scholastic, and they look even more lovely.
Toddlers will love Hanukkah: A Counting Book, which is a simple board book, featuring brightly colored images associated with the holiday. It even teaches counting in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish--with a pronunciation guide. Die cuts allow kids to light the candles while they flip the pages.
The Chanukah Coloring and Activity book is great for slightly older kids, because it's filled with activities, mazes, and obviously lots to color. Hanukkah starts December 1st, so be sure to order soon.
By the way, did anyone else notice that Hanukkah is spelled differently on each book? Guess her family is no different than mine.--Betsy
