With so many of us on the verge of Olympics fever, a Summer Olympics party is such a great way to get older kids into the spirit of the games. Whether you're just trying to make the opening ceremonies more exciting on Friday, or throw a full out theme party for a sports-minded kid, we've found sound fabulous ideas and resources on the web to make yours awesome.
There's no way most of us would ever go to the remarkable detail that we found on the Olympics party ideas at A Small Snippet (we bow to her!) but you can still find plenty of inspiration (pictured above.) Filling cake cones with popcorn as "torches" is flat out brilliant--though make sure it's not a windy day. And the snack ideas are wonderful, from Twizzlers wrapped with patriotic ribbon and star shaped watermelon, to printables on the water bottles and snack cups that say "rehydrate" or "refuel."
Her hand-printed Olympics tees are also pretty amazing--but for a shortcut, why not grab some plain white tees and Crayola fabric markers ($5.50 at our affiliate Amazon) or fabric paints and let kids create their own? Fortunately, the Olympics logo is pretty much at kindergarten art level.
If you're in the DIY spirit, at Alpha Mom we found a great tutorial for making Olympic medals by Cindy Hopper. You'll need workable clay, paint and ribbons, but the best part is that kids can do it themselves with some supervision. Great activity whether you're having a party or not.
The Olympics party printables at Birds Party are adorable, my favorite being the invitations that look like event tickets. You could probably make your own if you're handy with Illustrator of Photoshop. And you'll find even more ideas at Hostess With the Mostess (of course).
You don't have to spend a ton of energy and time to get the theme across. Something a simple as these Olympics cupcake toppers found at Shelterrific (one of my long-time favorite design blogs!) are pretty darn cool. Time spent = 12 seconds. Unless you make your own cupcakes. You can find them and other sporty party supplies at Fancy Flours. Also search "Fourth of July" for lots of USA themed items at any party store.
We're pretty much in love with Tiny Me's set of free Olympics printables for kids that we featured recently--especially the Opening Ceremonies Bingo, which is so clever.
