Helloooo, fall and winter skin. We meet again...sigh.
It's always around this time of year that my poor face starts to look--and feel--like it's going to flake off completely. I've experimented with a ton of different products (and I mean a ton) to find the best skin hydrators. My must-have moisturizers of the moment? A drugstore bestie, an organic newbie, and a remake of an old fave.
A chill in the air means time for some majorly hydrating moisturizers. I've learned from my dermatologist that the best ingredients to help the skin attract more water (and retain its water content) are ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid so I look for those ingredients in products like these.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer +
This yellow moisturizer from Clinique (above) is an icon in the beauty world. In fact, it's been one of the cosmetic giant's bestsellers for decades. They reinvented it this year into Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer + and added hyaluronic acid and some other goodies to strengthen the skin's barrier. The new formulation is way lighter than the original, making it the perfect day moisturizer, to be used before sunscreen.CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM With the amount of good-for-your-skin ingredients in the bottle, you'd never know CeraVe was a drugstore brand. I love the CearaVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM because it contains not one but all three of the major moisturizing guns your skin craves--hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and niacinamide. It truly is a powerhouse. I like to slather the heck out of this stuff at night. It's great for the neck and hairline, too, where I always get red and irritated.
Neal's Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense It's hard to find an organic cream that also contains active ingredients with major skin benefits. Neal's Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense is a brand new anti-aging cream loaded with argan oil, peptides, and plant stem cells, which are the hot new youth-building ingredient. Plant stem cells help regenerate collagen (yes, please) and plump up the skin. The soothing scent is an awesome way to help lull you into sleep.
