TOMS Roasting Co: Delicious single origin coffee from an unlikely source

I more than love my single-origin coffee. You could say we're involved. But it can be hard to find delicious, high-quality beans that aren't shipped out on someone else's schedule as part of a curated monthly subscription. Sometimes, I want to select my own beans and have them shipped to me right away. Thank goodness our pals at TOMS have added TOMS Roasting Co to their marketplace of ethically-sourced, carefully crafted products that give back. Which is a far cry from shoes, and yet...it works. My current obsession is single-origin whole bean coffee, ground daily and brewed in a Chemex, so I am especially happy to see that a company I trusted and that does good can provide an array of roasts and flavor profiles from around the world. TOMS pays their farmers through Direct Trade agreements, gives back to their communities through Water for People--each bag of coffee purchased provides a week of water to a person in need--and ships the beans to you at a reasonable price. I tried two bags and will definitely order again. The Malawi was my favorite--a mild, light roast with flavors of berry, chocolate and marmalade. The bloom is lovely on this one, with a warm scent of cherries and almonds that makes me kind of light-headed when I sniff it. The Guatemala is great, too--a medium roast with flavors of plum, coriander and chocolate that cups deep and round. This is to say, if you're not a coffee hound: they're both lovely and taste neither acidic nor burned, which are my biggest coffee turn-offs. You'll find beans from around the world in light, medium, and dark roast with clear descriptions for each bag so you know what flavors you'll be tasting. I also love the stickers on each bag that make it clear when they're organic, Fair Trade Certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified, or otherwise not hurting the world. I guess Rio 2, of all things, really drove home the ugliness of rainforest destruction for me. Perfect. Especially since I'm almost out of Malawi and want to try the Peru.
