Move over cutesie nursery art, plush taxidermy is taking over.

Plush taxidermy pig decor from Kelsey Davis Design
When papier-mâché animal heads began popping up on blogs a few years ago, I wasn't completely sold on the trend of faux taxidermy as children's decor. Sure, they were a million times less creepy than the real deal, but they didn't seem playful enough for a kid's bedroom. On the other hand, the plush taxidermy from Kelsey Davis Design are the perfect mix of wit and whimsy. If had a nursery to decorate, I'd place my order today.  All of the creatures she makes would be adorable over a crib or a dresser, but the crown-wearing lion and vintage-patterned pig are my two favorites.

Related: Zoo portrait clocks that will have you laughing.

The wall mounts start at $50, actually a reasonable price for something so beautifully hand sewn, stitched, and mounted on a ready-to-hang colorful wooden plaque. They'd make such a cool birthday gift or baby shower gift for parents who like things that are just a little offbeat. Keep in mind that what you see on the site is not what you get, however. All the plush taxidermy is made-to-order based on your color preferences, and Kelsey will even create any animal she doesn't already offer in her Etsy shop. I'm thinking a koala in a top hat. Find the handmade plush animal taxidermy from Kelsey Davis Design, as well as prints and pillows, on Etsy.
