Kids are born with big hearts. They are full of kindness and compassion. They want to do something when they see awful things in the world, especially impacting other children. I know my own kids have been distraught following what's happening to children separated from parents at the border and asking what they can do to help.
One of the ideas we discussed was a lemonade stand. And wow, little did we know that their lemonade stand this weekend could be part of an even bigger movement of kids helping kids.
Kids Take a Stand, organized by The Lawyer Moms Foundation, is inviting kids for the second year in a row to set up lemonade stands all over the country. It takes place this weekend, July 27 and 28.

The aim is to raise awareness of the plight of migrant families fleeing persecution and seeking asylum; and to raise money for two great organizations doing impactful work.
Proceeds will benefit KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), one of our own favorite orgs, as well as Rio Grande Valley Rapid Response, which helps to welcome, orient, feed, clothe, and otherwise serve the immigrants and refugees being released en masse in the Rio Grande Valley.
This is the second year of the event -- last year, kids across 38 states raised over $35,000. We can do better this year!

If your child wants to participate in Kids Take a Stand -Download a tool kit from Lawyer Moms Foundation, which lays out all the steps. -Be sure to sign up on their page to register your stand. -Download lemonade stand printables to help make your stand look great! -Make some awesome lemonade Here are some easy lemonade and snack recipes to help raise money. -Be sure to check to see if your neighborhood requires a permit! -Invite everyone you know! -Spread the word by sharing photos on social media, using the hashtags #KidsTakeaStand, #LawyerMomsFoundation. Where do the donations go?
The Kids Take a Stand Facebook page will have updates on how to donate profits through Paypal or their own Facebook fundraiser. So basically, pretty easy. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), one of our own favorite orgs; as well as the grassroots Rio Grande Valley Rapid Response, which helps to welcome, orient, feed, clothe, and otherwise serve the immigrants and refugees being released en masse in the Rio Grande Valley. And yes, it's all legit. After all, its a project of lawyer moms. Leave it to moms (who are lawyers) to get it done.
